About Postpartum Doulas
Mothering the mother, Postpartum Doulas provide knowledgeable, nurturing care for the postpartum woman and her newborn. They may instruct on baby care and breastfeeding, cook nutritious meals and run light errands. Certification is through the National Association of Postpartum Care Services. (NAPCS) and The Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA), among others. Studies by Kennel and Klaus showed that doula care improved breastfeeding success, decreased postpartum depression, increased maternal satisfaction and promoted better mother-infant interaction (from Mothering the Mother, by MH Klaus, JH Kennell and PH Klaus, Addison- Wesley Publishing Company, 1993.

Since 1991, Cordelia has been nurturing new mothers and newborn children with tender loving care. Services include breastfeeding consultation and instruction, meal preparation, grocery shopping, newborn care instruction, physical care of mother and newborn, emotional support and referrals to complimentary services (massage, acupuncture, chiropractic, etc.). Caring for the mother so she can focus on recovering from childbirth and bonding with her baby. Enhances the new mothers confidence for breastfeeding and parenting. You deserve some TLC after you give birth, especially after a cesarean section. Daily and Weekly rates available.

Breastfeeding specialists provide a range of support for simple to complex breastfeeding issues , providing hands on support and education for comm
on problems like sore nipples and low milk supply and complex problems like breastfeeding premature babies and breastfeeding with implants. Certifications include: Breastfeeding Peer Counselors (BPCs), Certified Lactation Educators (CLE), Certified Lactation Educators (CLE), Certified Lactation Educator Counselors (CLEC), International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC).

Breastfeeding consultation by phone, email or in person. Breastfeeding Education Classes can be in a 3-week 2-hour session format (private lessons) taught in your home or group 3 week series. Topics include: Benefits of breastfeeding, how the breasts make milk, keeping up your milk supply, how to know if baby’s getting enough milk, pumping and storage of breastmilk and dealing with common problems such as low milk supply, inverted nipples, fussy baby, engorgement, mastitis, and more. Call to schedule. Breastfeeding support by peer counselors offered for low-income women who have Medi-Cal. Phone and in-person consultation in hospital or home is available by breastfeeding peer counselors. Also offer training workshop and certification program for Breastfeeding Peer Counselors.
