The Transparency in Maternity Care Project
was birthed in February of 2006 by the Grassroots Advocates Committee (GAC) of the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS). We are a volunteer group dedicated to ensuring public access to quality of care information specifically related to maternity care providers and institutions.
They launched The Birth Survey.
Have you given birth in the past two years? Share your experience of giving birth with other moms or find out what other women's experiences were at The Birth Survey. Review your doctor's report card and the medical intervention rates at your hospital. This is a "consumer report" of birth practices. Helping you make informed decisions.Click here to take or view the survey.
What is Transparency?
Transparency in maternity care means providing health care consumers with the information they need - and the means to interpret it - in order to evaluate the quality of care provided by individual providers and institutions.
Transparency is the missing ingredient to truly informed choice.
National Survey of Women's Childbirth Experiences - "Listening to Mothers" and "New Mothers Speak Out"
-
The maternal health promotion organization, Childbirth Connection (formerly Maternity Center Association) did two landmark national Listening to Mothers Surveys in 2002 and 2006 which are valuable resources for understanding and improving women's childbearing experiences. They focus the discussion on views of those who care most about maternity issues: mothers themselves.
We invite pregnant women to read the report to help understand maternity experiences, set goals and make plans and decisions. New and experienced mothers can use this national profile to put your own experiences in perspectives.
