Renee Sicignano is a senior apprentice working towards her licensure from the National College of Midwifery. Renee has been working with Childbirth at Home, a Labor of Love since 2004.

Renee is originally from New York where she earned her B.A. in Theatre from S.U.N.Y. New Paltz. Renee, being the youngest of seven children, witnessed her sisters give birth with the assistance of midwives. Watching this as a child left a strong impression on her and shaped her desire to become a midwife herself. Shortly after moving to Los Angeles with her husband they planned their first child¹s birth at a free-standing birth center. However, it was not until after their second son was born at home that Renee began her journey into midwifery.

Renee started as a birth doula in 1999. Soon after she received her certifications as a Lactation Specialist from the Lactation Institute and as a childbirth educator from the Association of Childbirth Educators.

In addition to being a wife, mother, doula and midwifery student, Renee also runs the nationally recognized corporate lactation program for the City of Los Angeles. Her corporate lactation program has won numerous awards, most recently being recognized by the Los Angeles Breastfeeding Task Force as well as the National Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition.

Renee¹s mission is to empower women through birth and breastfeeding. It is her greatest honor and privilege to be present at the birth of a child.
